A central AC system is a very tough piece of equipment. It is designed to withstand all sorts of wear and keep on running. More often than not, this is great, but it can lead to a lack of maintenance. Like a car, air conditioners need regular tune-ups to run at top efficiency.

Without regular maintenance an air conditioner can lose about 5% of its original efficiency for each year of operation.
